OVERVIEW
The gateway to the Lower Zambezi, Gwabi River Lodge and its 9 rooms are in a mid range category but very conveniently located.
Gwabi River Lodge has an incredible history and was one of the first to establish and offer lodgings in the Lower Zambezi Valley. Situated along the tranquil banks of the Kafue River, a mere 6kms from the Mighty Zambezi River, Gwabi River Lodge has long been known as the Zambian lodge with a direct gateway to the Lower Zambezi and easy access overland from Lusaka.
Setting & Ambiance
The lodge is nestled on the river bank and has a central bar, restaurant and pool area which provides ample social space and a large deck that directly overlooks the river. The casual atmosphere all adds to the relaxing vibe that the owners and staff try and provide to their guests from all over the world.
Accommodation Options
Gwabi River Lodge provides mainly two type of accommodation, all with in a very short walk from the central area. One is their Superior rooms and the other are their standard rooms, all with the same facilities and air conditioning. There is a family chalet for adults and young children.
1. Superior Chalet Rooms

There are 7 Superior Chalets on offer – 5 with a scenic river view and 2 family room set in the garden overlooking a beautiful array of trees. With a light and airy feel, these chalets are well furnished with comfortable beds, air conditioning and a complimentary tea and coffee tray.
They are all en-suite with large walk in showers that complete the smart new look.
2. Family Chalet

Two family rooms set in the garden overlooking a beautiful array of trees. With a light and airy feel, these chalets are well furnished with comfortable beds, air conditioning and a complimentary tea and coffee tray.
They are all en-suite with large walk in showers that complete the smart new look.
3. Standard Chalets

Layout:
Two standard twin bed chalets which are situated in the lush garden area and cater for 2 people comfortably. These chalets are well furnished with comfortable beds, air conditioning and a complimentary tea and coffee tray. All chalets are en-suite with walk-in showers.
Dining & Facilities
Restaurant:
The lodge boasts an all day dining restaurant which has a river front deck from which you can enjoy your meal while taking in the stunning view of the Kafue River. The a la carte menu caters for all appetites and our chefs can accommodate special dietary requirements on request;

Bar:
Gwabi River Lodge has a bar that overlooks the large outdoor pool and serves an extensive range of beverages throughout the day. We also have a small lounge area available to lodge residents and day guests.

Surrounded by sun loungers and shady spots. The pool is open to all residents and paying day guests.
Internet:
Internet is available in the public areas for residents and is available free of charge.
Wildlife Viewing:
Looking down onto the river you can spot wildlife and in particular various monkeys and there are large amounts of bird life.
Activities
Game / River Safaris:
Game drives into the national park can be done and will be an all day trip. Other very popular viewing trips are by river and that was you get to see the animals on both the Zambia and Zimbabwe river side as they come down to drink.
Fishing Trips:
Whether you are a avid fisher person or a "happy hooker" the options of a half or full day fishing trip for Bream or Tiger Fish is a great alternative whilst you are on the Kafue / Zambezi rivers.
Sunset Cruises / Day Trips:
Whilst you are here you must take in a sunset game viewing and sundowners trip.
Why not take a trip to the Baobab Forest and one of the local communities, many of which Gwabi River Lodge supports..
Community Involvement:
Gwabi River Lodge employs all of their operational staff for the lodge and the activities form the local villages. In addition they support these communities with education, donations of a non financial kind and the funding for the development of community buildings.
Unique Aspects
Autonomy: Guests enjoy flexibility of what they would like to do and when - all activities are not fixed the same each day. Please note that for the game drive to the National Park, this is a very early start and a early evening return by boat and by game viewing vehicle.
Hospitality: A great option is to add into a days activities is to have lunch on a sand bank in the middle of the Zambezi River.
Gwabi River Lodge is a family owned business that is easily accessible overland from Lusaka and is at the gateway of the Kafue and Zambezi Rivers. It has the advantage that all chalets have air conditioning which can be vital during peak heat times of October.
